Parent-Teacher Conference Day at the Pride
Thirteenth Avenue School hosted Parent/Teacher Conference Day on February 24, 2010. Parents were able to conference with Teachers, Administrators, Speech Therapists, Case Managers, Physical Education Teachers, Coaches, Art Teachers, and other support staff. Parents were also able to obtain report cars, NJASK, and Learnia scores. A Conference was also held with parents and administrators to address various concerns including: Lack of differentiated Instruction, Staff professionalism, NJASK Preparation, Primary Grade Testing, Administrative Visibility, Parent Notification (Warning Notices), Intervention and Support Services and a lack of staff attendance at PTA meetings.

FAMILY NITE AT THE PRIDE OF NEWARK
The Thirteenth Avenue School PTA hosted Family Game Night on Thursday, February 18, 2010 in the School’s Cafeteria. The Evening included: Door Prizes, Face painting, A Buffet Dinner and various games including: NJASK Science Bingo, UNO, Connect Four, Candyland, A Jump Rope Contest, ID your child, Trouble, Dominoes, Shoot-Out contest, Horse Shoe, and Bulls Eye. School Staff decorated the School Cafeteria witht able settings, banners, Balloons, and Streamers
The Buffet Dinner included: Seafood Salad, Buffalo wings, Yellow Rice, String Beans, Macaroni & Cheese, Cake and punch. The Dinner was catered by FAJR’s Seafood Grill in Newark.
Healthy Lifestyle Snacks were distributed to each family. “It was a night of fun that my daughter and I really needed after we were displaced by a house fire last Friday remarked, Juanita Sledge”, Parent
“This is my son’s first year at Thirteenth Avenue School so we had the chance to meet many new families” remarked,Mr. Chris Artis, Father of three students at the school who recently relocated to Newark from Alabama.
Parents also had the opportunity to join the School’s PTA and register for the School Father’s Basketball Game on March 19th and Mother’s Volleyball Game on March 26th.
There were approximately 300 parents, staff and students in attendance. Door Prizes were donated by NJ NETS, Fun Services, Project Talk, Pathmark, Newark Screens on Springfield, Councilman Ronald Rice.

Panther Store holds Grand Opening
The Thirteenth Avenue School Store held its Grand Opening on Wednesday, February 3, 2010. The School store is located on the second floor of the school in Room 204. There are various items that can be purchase in the school store including school uniforms for staff and students, school supplies, holiday gifts and treats. The store is managed by various staff members and several parents as well.
The Panther Store Hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
